The British Riding Club Area 22 Dressage and Riding Test Qualifiers 2019

August 10, 2019

Gordon Dressage Group members enjoyed great success at The British Riding Club Area 22 Dressage and Riding Test Qualifiers. The event was kindly hosted by Findon Riding Club and took place at Brechin Castle Equestrian over the 27th and 28th of July.

The two day event featured twelve riding clubs competing as both teams and individuals in dressage and show jumping. Nine riders represented Gordon Dressage Group over the weekend and all performed superbly in typical Scottish conditions!

Gordon Dressage Group’s two junior representatives, Lottie Wiseman and Evie Smith, excelled to achieve 1st in the Junior Pairs Non-Qualifying Section under the experienced eyes of judge Hilary Anderson. Lottie and her ride Maxwalton Moschino were also a fantastic 2nd in Prelim 2 and 4th Prelim 7 Riding Test while Evie also enjoyed success with Fraggle Rock gaining 2nd in Prelim 7 Riding Test and 4th Prelim 2, within the junior section. Evie returned on Sunday to contest in the show jumping and placed a fabulous 4th in the 70cm class!

The senior club members also faced stiff competition and testing ground conditions. First forward of the day for Gordon Dressage Group was Lauren Reid and Wembly, together they produced two great tests for judges Linda Walker and Marie Graham to bag two 4th places. The following Novice Class, test 38, judged by Hannah Burns was ridden by Susan Reid and Midnight Summer who produced a lovely test for 4th- the combination continued their success in Elementary 43 for a great 5th place.

In the Prelim tests, Irene Stove and Maddison achieved a very good 6th placing in Prelim 13 under Linda Walker. Karen O’ Donnell and Ballymolloy Kinvara as well as Debbie Humble and Silverhill Clover competed in the following Prelim 14 class judged by Hannah Burns for an excellent 8th and 5th. Finally, in Prelim 15, Debbie and Karen returned for 5th and 7th scored by Hilary Anderson.

The highest level of test competed on the day was Medium 61 judged by British Dressage List 3, Lorraine Grant. This was successfully tackled by Jessica Stephen and Polarus for 2nd place. The combination also contested in Elementary 43 for 2nd and achieved the highest Gordon Dressage Group senior score of the day of 68.4%. Jessica was one of the two competitors to contest in the jumping on Sunday where her success continued for 1st in the 1m class.

The competitors were then marked as two teams: the Prelim Team, consisting of the four preliminary level competitors, and the Open Team section which involved novice and elementary level tests. After combining their scores and calculating their placings, the teams stood 8th and 2nd in excellent company! The Open Section was won by NERC while Findon headed the Prelim Section, many congratulations to the two clubs on their success.

Overall, the event was extremely well run and a pleasure to attend with fantastic team spirit and sportsmanship displayed by all clubs involved. Gordon Dressage Group members came home with not only great results across the board but also a truly enjoyable and memorable experience!

The next chance to represent Gordon Dressage Group at British Riding Club event will be at the Scottish Saddle Up Championships at Auchlishie EQ on the 28th and 29th of September. Please contact training organiser Jean Stephen (jeanmstephen@gmail.com) to express your interest in competing!
